I want you to remember everything. Every single day with me, every single second, because your memories are more powerful than anything else on this planet. Just think of it, Sarah, remember it, Jo, but properly, properly - give the Memory Weave everything. Every planet, every face, every madman, every loss, every sunset, every scent, every terror, every joy. Every Doctor. Every me.

Beginnings

I’m already starting to see a lot of posts commemorating the one-year anniversary of Elisabeth Sladen’s death on April 19, 2011; it’s been on my mind, too, although given how much of Lis and Sarah Jane I post anyway I don’t think the increase has been too noticeable.

In any case, it’s wonderful to see so many people honoring and remembering this occasion, but this week marks a different sort of anniversary for me. Just days before she passed, I watched my very first episodes of Doctor Who; School Reunion was the third in my mini-marathon, and the one that truly hooked me on the show. While the world lost her a year ago, I was lucky enough to discover her for the first time, and with that, all of the wonder and excitement that has been Doctor Who for the past fifty years.

So, on that note, over the next few days I want to celebrate beginnings rather than endings: Sarah’s first time in the TARDIS, her first adventures with the Fourth Doctor and Harry, embarking on a new life post-School Reunion, and adopting Luke and finding a family in The Sarah Jane Adventures. It’s been a year since my own journey with Sarah Jane and Doctor Who began, and as much as I regret not having been involved before Lis died, I know that there are generations yet to come who will have the privilege and thrill of discovering her and Sarah Jane down the line. That’s well worth celebrating.
